All I have seen is Copper, not one Tin node. In Erid Luin area (sp?), not looking for someone to give their omg secret spot but are there particualr areas where you can go tto get it or is it just random? Tried mining and then going back for respawn.

Bumping, because I just spent what seemed like forever having my prospector farm bronze for my weaponsmith. I tell you, if I'd been longer in the game and had a level60, I'd buy the tin from the AH instead of farming it, since tin is really rare.
I tried farming in Ered Luin, but wasn't satisfied with the number of spawns in general. I thought that the Marsh area seemed to have closer spawns. Tin and copper share the same spawn sites, so if you can walk in a circle, you can refarm the areas you did a few minutes ago. I started out in Chetwood, then walked around the Marsh for about 5 or 6 turns. I mined the copper, and hoped that the next time I made a pass around the same area, I'd find tin instead.
I found that walking around the Marsh helped keep me from going nuts, as I could see each lap as a kind of progress.

Erid Luin kind of sucks for ore IMHO.
I sent my dwarf metalsmith and my dwarf weaponsmith to Rushock Bog in the Shire. Fgure out the spawn points, and keep harvesting sooner or later the good stuff shows up
I'm finding the same issue and hope that with the rebalancing act that was done for tier 1 that enouhg consideration was put into thought that maybe, just MAYBE, thing will have to change. The previous ratio of copper to tin for tin bars has obviously changed, and with good reason and it is about time. I would like to think that Turbine is in the process of re-evaluating the need for more tin veins or at least drastically increasing the frequency of rich tin veins,

If you want to find tin, head to the shire. There is a lot more ore in the shire than in Erid Liun. At least on my server, tin goes for pretty outrageous amounts (very close to mount money by level 21 amounts). Quest heavily in the shire and let no node go unmined. Also, realize that taking horse travel represents a large opportunity cost of not mining. You will be questing in the shire until you outlevel the place by a pretty large amount (I finished up in the shire at 17 or 18) so don't bother taking roads-run through the middle of fields to get resource nodes other players are missing.
Work on griding out your deeds in the corners of the zone. As another player suggested, the blog has a bunch of ore spots and you can grind your slugs at the same time. However, the fields of the shire do have lots of ore in general-work on completing your quest deeds and you will collect a bunch of ore.
I feel sorry for any profession who has to use bronze to level. Bronze bars go for outrageous amounts. Finally, make sure you mine all the copper nodes as well. Keep in mind that people pay to level professions so ore will frequently sell for more than bars will-it will vary by the server/day of the week.
I have seen a lot of user created maps for various things and I think a crafting resource map would be really helpful. Not sure one exists but maybe turbine should look into making one of these so that crafting isn't just about wandering around randomly until you find resources.

Rushock Bog in the Shire's a good spot. Unfortuantely the change to the way bronze works made tin go from worthless to hawt. Turbine apparently gave little to no thought to ore distribution when they made the change and it seems to be a mistake to not have picked up the tin spawn rate slightly.

Best place for me in the past was always Ruschok Bog just south of Needlehole for T1 items (wood and ore). Was just running around there this weekend (75 quests in Shire to get traits FTW!) and I noticed a fair amount of Tin nodes.

On a different note: At least they did bump up the silver spawn areas. Unfortunately, Tin took its place.
If you do head into Rushock bog with your low level toon, watch out for Mangemaw on the hill near the bridge, He only spawns when level 60's with his quest come into the area, but watch out as a level 60 wolf will find tasty hobbit snacks a nice last meal and I believe his agro calculations will prefer you if you are near.

2 Toons to 60 and I don't think I can stomach another level up. Left to play WoW

I ran by his spot a few times (slug-squasher ftw) and never saw him, tho I did see a couple of L60s hanging around (probably waiting for re-pop). Would be interesting to see what the wolf's aggro radius is when encountering a pre-l35 or so.
I was trying to gather mats for my freshly created weaponsmith over the weekend. So, I figured Rushock Bog as that has been the best location for me to find tin in the past. By the time I had gathered 100 copper ore I still only had 18 tin.
I wish Turbine would fix the tin issue myself. I get anywhere from 2-5 copper off of a copper node but only 1 ore from the majority of tin nodes I find. Makes the metalsmith and weaponsmith professions almost unbearable.

Yes the wolf will go for a lower level character over a level 60, I have seen this happen.
As for the amount of tin produced per tin node versus amount of copper produced per copper node, it is completely random.
Used to be tin was ignored so it seemed there was more of it spawning. But now it is highly desired, so it is also being farmed.
You just gotta be willing to spend the time, and COLLECT THE OTHER ORE TOO! That simple rule seems to be unlearnable by so many, as is seen in Eregion where the tin is ignored. Besides, copper is still selling well, for around 250 silver for a 50 stack.
I just have trouble paying the 2gp someone wanted for 100 tin ores I saw on the AH....
Insane, isn't it? I still can't figure it out, as the amount of copper and tin to make bronze is still the same as was originally. Only difference is that you can get extra prospecting points when processing it.
I sell tin for 10 silver per ore. Others are selling it for about twice as much, but that seems too crazy of a price for my liking.
I did 45 quests in the shire this weekend, looting every node I could find, and I'm still only 1/2 through the FIRST tier on weaponsmith. It's really frustrating.
Googled, bump, etc. Im finding more Tin around watery areas(the swamp in Bree is good), but its still annoying to farm. Low pop servers like mine never even have any in the AH.
I never knew just how painful the tin deficit could be until I started to level a weaponsmith alt. Bleh. I feel for you guys.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just stick to the areas with the highest density of T1 ore nodes, collect EVERYTHING, and wait for re-spawns. Rushock Bog really is the best for this because not only are there a ton of nodes, but by the time you complete a circuit of the area, the nodes where you started will have re-spawned. The area is also mostly empty of aggressive enemies (except for the aforementioned Mangemaw and the Dourhands in the north part of the Bog, who can be easily avoided), so ore collection should be easy at any level.
If you REALLY start to get frustrated, you can always gather all the copper ore you can find/buy and go ahead and level Prospecting to Apprentice Master by making copper ingots. This opens up a small chance to crit on ingot production, and while it won't make a huge difference, any boost to tin/bronze ingot production is better than none at all.
Well, at least I'm not the only one who finds elation at discovering an unmined Tin node! I play on Arkenstone, and it's the same thing as you guys- too many peeps leaving copper unmined, so you have to get "lucky" and swing through when the moon is in the proper phase, etc., etc. to find any Tin.
My 21st lvl GRD weaponsmith took forever to advance because of the lack of Tin holding down my Bronze ingot production. Of course, once you finally make it, at least so far, I haven't really found a need for Tin anymore (maybe another problem?), but I do harvest when I am not in a hurry so as to sell it if nothing else.
To me, the Tin issue seems to be a combination of a low mining output rate (1-2 on std nodes) plus needing 2 nuggets to make 1 ingot of Tin end up squeezing the system to the point where Tin and Bronze ingot production is severely affected.
Now that Silver Nodes have been fixed, Tin is the new Silver in both rarity and price on the AH.
Unfortunately, with the recent changes that removed Copper/Tin Nodes from many areas and replaced them with Barrow/Silver Nodes to fix the Silver Shortage in Middle-Earth, this makes most Ore Node maps obsolete.
To harvest large amounts of Tin, one must do as they once had to do with Silver. Define a harvesting circuit. Harvest every Node in that circuit, whether it be Copper or it be Tin. Once you've harvested all Ore along that circuit, repeat and rinse. The first time through your circuit will be hit or miss. The second and subsequent times through will consistently (or should be) 2:1 ratio of Copper to Tin.
My personal hot-spots for Copper/Tin is, as has been mentioned, The Shire and the Swamp east of Combe in Breeland. Still, Tin is not going to come without putting forth a concerted effort no matter where you go.

I haven't really done anything with metal-working crafters other than my jeweler, who of course didn't need tin for anything. Just out of curiosity, are there metalworking consignments? If so, where are they obtained, and would tin be something found in the lowest consignment order? And of course, would there be enough to warrant actually doing the consigments?

The ore consignments are located near Thorin's Hall at Silver Deep Mines.
I am not sure what you would get in the lowest tier but it's only 10s and just an 8 hour wait instead of a 40 hour wait for the largest tier.
Note: you don't have to have prospecting to do the consignment quests so you could park a couple mules there and log them on every 8 hours or so and repeat the quest until you had enough saved up.

I did 2-hour's worth of my old, normal, been-there-done-that, route in Rushok Bog, and I can say that this definitely Did Not happen All in all, I ended up with close to 150 copper ores, and about 10 tin ores (yes, that's about 15:1 ). I was basically getting 1 tin node every 8 rounds or so. Thankfully, I just wanted a couple of T1 crit tools, so those 10 tins were more than sufficient.
This was around 1AM PST Saturday morning and I did Not see another soul running around in those 2 hours.
Couple of additional observation ("new" to me): Did Not encounter a lot of Rich nodes; IIRC, a total of 4 rich nodes, All Copper.
Between dye mats, crit items (js, ms,ws...) there were a LOT of junk lol!
I have been noticing recently that, in Rushock Bog at least, tin seems to be less than before. Recently I was running my warden around the bog for a while, no one else was there at the time. 250 copper, and about 50 tin. In Forachel the ratio of iron to silver seems right, as does the barrow to silver where I have been collecting it. Gold seems to be a bit low compared to rich iron. But something has been off recently with tin, at least in the bog. Interestingly, I have a low level character that just collects copper and tin between Michel Delving and Waymeet. She has been getting a good ratio of copper to tin.
Thanks to this thread, I completed Mastery in tier 1 of Metalsmithing this morning (w/ my first LOTRO character ever mind you) by running circuits in Rushock Bog. Since abandoning the Gondamon region with 40ish total points into metalsmith, It took me 3 one-hour sessions to earn Mastery. Each session consisted of 2-3 circuits. For each circuit, I'd basically traverse the perimeter of the bog and cut once through the center, avoiding the section heavily populated w/ the Dourhand. By the end of each circuit the starting nodes would respawn; so rinse and repeat. Here are some observations:
+ The ratio of copper to tin varied drastically and I didn't pick up on any sort of pattern to it. Some circuit run-through's would yield 1:10 (tin to copper) while others were closer to 2:3, with the rest falling somewhere in the middle. Quite random.
+ To escape the doldrum, I'd sometimes veer into the wooded area east of the Bog and hunt foraging bears for hides. There's a decent enough number of nodes in the area to feel like sufficient crafting progress was being made.
+ Once I encountered a level 9 elite Troll (w/ 2 heads I think?) in the center of the Bog. This was my first elite and an epic solo victory; total awesomeness!
+ At the end of each session, whatever copper surplus I had leftover after converting to bronze would get posted on the Auction Hall. At the close, said copper alone earned my lvl 14 Dwarf Champion 1.2 gold on the Landroval server! That's some serious coinage! Now at lvl 15, my merry lil Dwarf is looking at buying his very own Hobbit Hole.
+ I hardly gained any experience at all; maybe 1/10th closer to the next level? But the fact that your time prospecting seldom gets interrupted seems to make each session flow seamlessly.
Hope this helps shed some light for new players. Thank you for all of you who contributed to this thread and steered me in the right direction. Especially considering the ridiculous bump to my coffers, I can't express enough how pleased I am! Now back to questing in Ered Luin...

I agree that the ratio for me has been about 7:1 to 5:1 for copper to tin.
Is there some secret to this? Some have told me that crafting is just an afterthought in lotro (this was over a year ago). Is that the case now? (I certainly hope not, I get enjoyment out of it, but not in farming 27 tin in two hours... not fun at ALL)
Forget the One Ring, the RNG rules all. I have rode from MD to Hobbiton to Overhill and picked up 10 Tin nodes, 3 of them Rich, and only 2 Copper nodes. Most of the time they are fairly even when I am in an area sucking them up, although it doesn't really matter to me, since I am usually grabbing them for the AH. But sometimes one or the other will be the majority. That is just the way the numbers are generated.
