Thread: Mouse wheel zoom not working intermittently

Hi,

Occasionally when in game, the mouse wheel will stop functioning for zooming. This hasn't happened pre-moria. When I exit the game and re launch, it fixes, but I thought i'd bring it up.

Apparently this bug has been around since alpha. Turbine's probably never going to fix it. The only way to get it back to normal is to restart the game. :/

I have same problem. Seems to be related to using mail or auction house. See this thread for more info.

Don't think they're ever gonna fix it.

It happens to me quite often, sometimes it fixes.. but it's very rare when it does.. but when i relaunch it, it fixes .

I've been having this happen to me as well and it's getting very tiring to have to log out and back in to fix it.
In fact, I came here in the hopes of finding a solution for this

Seems to me the new patch that's about to come out should include some of these little nuisances.

I commend you for finding an existing thread on the topic and replying to it. Here's another one that's 6 pages long dating back to 2007! Turbine doesn't care about this bug or lacks the expertise to fix it. Those are the only two logical conclusions one can arrive at when a bug exists for 3 years in my opinion. I continue to check up on the topic hoping against all odds that one day the squeaky wheel will get oiled.

It just happened to me again a few minutes ago. I checked some auctions and checked my mail and then my mouse wheel wouldn't work for the camera zoom. I suspect that using the mouse wheel to scroll in the auction window caused it to stop working, but I don't really know. It's hard to remember to not touch the scroll wheel when at the mailbox or the auction house. I wish this bug affected the people working at Turbine who play this game as much as it affects me, that is IF anyone at Turbine is playing LOTRO. Maybe then we'd get a fix.

No, in this case, the original bug report(s) for this go unfixed since 2007.

To reproduce this, just log out and log in characters over and over again until it happens. I see this happen once every few months. It's very rare, but I've seen it before. For others, they get this much more often. Closing the client and relaunching it fixes the issue, so it's not a high priority for Turbine.

Yup, still happens to me sometimes. But every few hours? Sounds a little exaggerated. It happens when switching characters frequently for me, not a matter of time. Who knows, it might be different for you?

If I only play one character I'd never see this happen. But once I start switching around between multiples, on some character loads the mouse wheel doesn't work. And the only fix is to exit the client and relaunch it. Logging out and back in doesn't help.

not, exaggerated, a real fact. i hate when it happens and it happens every 2-3 hours and only in Moria. just because you have it once per month doesnt mean others have it only once per month as well....

Ouch, sorry to hear. Whatever triggers it must be an unusual situation. I hope Turbine will get around to actually addressing this since they should have more time/money to fix this with the influx of money from F2P.

well, now it's june 29, 2011 and the problem is still here. it just happened to me right after i logged off and switched to another character.

Bumping this thread as this just happened to me. Used to happen a lot more a couple of years ago. Had it happen only a couple times in last year. Still annoying though. Bugged it as well.

well it's november 8th and the bug is still there ... come on turbine, fix this darn thing already. 4 years ... !

Same thing just happened to me in Galtrev AH.
Mouse wheel works in ingame menu's, including options.
Alt tabbed out, mouse wheel works fine. Zoom button's respond
as normal, just no wheel.

I was searching the AH and had just 'X''d it out then it happened.

Nice find, this bug can celebrate its anniversary along with the game. Im so used to it it dont bother me anymore but sad realy it still happens.

Happens too me without fail if I use the mailbox more than 6 times. Even if I use the mailbox once on seven different toon. On number seven it stops working.

This one bug and the total lack of response over the years is why I will NEVER invest in another turbine game after I'm done with this one.

Unfortunately I'm in love with this one game... Maybe GW2 can save me?

Wow, I'm amazed that this bug is still not fixed. Happened to me several times today. Had to restart the client twice before it went away.

I have found the culprit thingamabob that causes my mouse wheel zoom to stop working with my Guardian.
The cause of it is the Mailbox, and I now have a work-around to stop the mouse wheel zoom bug to strike.
Simply don't ever, ever use mouse wheel scrolling when browsing your Mailbox, drag the vertical bar to browse through mails, also: drag the bar to the bottom, open only one (1) mail at a time and close the whole Mailbox after each mail, repeat the process until your Mailbox is empty enough to suit your needs.
Seems to work 99% of the time.
I would also avoid panning around your point-of-view with the mouse while doing so.

Gonna necro this thread again to confirm it's still around for some godawful, stupid reason. It seems Turbine believes "well don't use x game mechanic while using y game mechanic" is an acceptable solution. News flash, it isn't.

Another thread suggested that opening more than 6 messages without closing the mailbox window can also trigger the bug. I believe so much as panning the camera will also trigger the bug, seems to me I remember that happening to me.

When you have to actually close and re-launch lotro to fix this issue it is no longer an acceptable bug that we should ignore.

Just happened to me and had to restart game.

I mouse scroll in and out on the fly without even thinking as it is a part of my play style in any mmo. This bug is pure annoying to me. Sad thing is this has happened prior years back and very sad it has never been addressed.I only recently returned again and it is indeed off to see the same bugs from years ago.

necroing to report that its 2013, and the bug still persists. After learning that it is directly related to the Mail box I plan to try and prevent from having it. It happens atleast once every play session for me, and I have to close the whole game down just to fix it. Terribly annoying, especially when in a group.

Don't have to be the mailbox. I was out in the open, fighing a mob. Then got aggro from a mounted one, so I got me war-steed out and swooosh no more scrolling.

Hasn't happend in years, until last week it happened once. I wonder if they have done something to re-introduce an old bug.

It's happened to me tonight, very annoying. I thought i'd changed something in the options but can't think of what it might be!

This bug is really annoying.
Happens to me often when i took a look into the overflow bag or if i used the "k" button to find a skill.
Only chance to zoom is the 7 and 9 key on the num-block.

Hi, just encountered this bug for the first time. A few observations that I made might be interesting for others to confirm/reject:

1) It never happened to me before my Char advanced to Dunland/Galtrev.
2) I use a logitech gaming mouse
3) I use Windows 7

When it happens, using Keypad 7 and 9 still work for zooming, just the mousewheel is broken. So it is not the camera getting stuck.

referring to the points above:

1) is not true, I am now able to trigger the bug even in Thorin's Hall. It seems to happen when sitting on a horse and reading acution house related mail. specially when there is a lot of mail, it is almost a guarantee that it will happen.

However, I still fail to find a way to ALWAYS reproduce this bug. So far, I load, I don't change the initial zoom setting. I call a horse, I ride until a mailbox is in view then stop. I right click it from a distance, so the char rides there and stops on its own. I noticed that this way, the char is often a bit inside the letterbox (after turning the camera sideways). I then right click each letter from bottom to top, and get items placed in my bags, or receive money. Often, the zoom is then stuck after this, but not always. Once it is stuck only complete game restarts help.

I would like to encourage the community to try the get the bug as well. Key is to reliably be able to reproduce it. It might be worth stating your hardware (mouse and keyboard first) in case you don't have any issues. Logitech is still on my watchlist as there seems to be a right click issue too, but this would be a different thread...
