Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Unlike the elves, dwarves and race of man, there are other and older life-forms in the world of Arda that Tolkien wrote about while not being clear on their origins. Tom Bombadil and his companion Goldberry are examples. Turbine has taken that idea and added a few characters of like mysterious origins. Willowsong at the Silverwell just southeast of Staddle is one. And, here is another, Gwindeth, the Blue Lady of Evendim. You can encounter her a couple of different times. Here she is in the Flooded Ward of Annuminas.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
If you love undead, there are quite a few places in the game to encounter them. Imlad Balchorth in Angmar is one, and these are a few of the tombs there. Note the creeping disembodied hand at the bottom of the screenshot.

LOTRO environments. There's the Shire, there's mannish Bree, there's the great ruins of Evindim, and so many more. They help make the game.
In the books, Greenwood the Great, or Eryn Galen, has declined under the influence of Sauron and the creeping evil that seems to accompany him wherever he goes. Now called Mirkwood, or Taur-e-Ndaedelos meaning the Forest of the Great Fear, Turbine has really captured the "feel" of the dingy, murky, dangerous wood that it has become in these late years of the Third Age. If you dislike going there or down into Moria, then Turbine artists have done well portraying Tolkien's words.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Hanhar is a mid-level quest reward helmet that I really like the design of for an elf guardian. The swan motif is an ancient and well-established motif for elves, especially of the Teleri, and which you will see, if you look for it, in Lothlorien.
The left screenshot is of the original color. The right is when it's dyed white, which goes nicely with my guardian's Glorious Armor of the Galadhrim set that is also dyed white.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Jewellery, spelled as Tolkien did. Thus far, I've not posted any screenshots on jewellery since equipped jewellery doen't show on your character. Which is reasonable as that would be 7 more items the server and client would have to deal with, per character on the screen. Frankly, while I would like to see my characters actually wearing their jewellery, I would not be happy with the server and graphics performance hit, especially in fellowships and raids.
Level appropriate, and hopefully critted, jewellery is important to the capability of your character. And, with the last patch Turbine artists have updated many of the icons used, too. What I’ll show aren’t necessarily the best for any class or level, just some samples, although all are critted. And, you'll be able to get a feel for how stats advance as the first I show is level 16 and the last is level 65. So, here is a small assortment with their stats:
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
It's a beautiful game; and this shot shows off the hi-res graphics nicely, too. Makes a very nice wallpaper for your desktop, as most of my screenshots do.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Fornost in the North Downs. The seat of the old kings of Ardethain, a segment of the kingdom of Arnor. Lost to and then occupied by the Witch King in year 1974 of the 3rd Age for a year, it was never rebuilt until King Elessar did it as a part of the reestablishment of Arnor.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Minas Gil means Star Tower or Tower of the Stars. This is a screenshot of it as it's depicted in the game as we follow the path from the previous screenshot in this thread.
The name is significant as the stars held great meaning for the Elder Children. Orome, one of the eight Aratar who were the greatest of the Valar, discovered the elves at Cuivienen, their awakening place. He named them Eldar which means People of the Stars, which at first was the only light they had. (The Sun and Moon were yet long millennia of years away from being created.)
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
A Shadow Sorcerer in Minas Gil. Note the symbol of the Eye on his chest. Another of the small details the Turbine artists didn't have to add, but which the game is full of.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
After clearing out the multiple spawns near the top of Minas Gil, I got a chance for a screenshot of ... an audience chamber, theater, presentation room ... not really sure. It had the curtained platform on the right and rows of chairs on the left, one row of which you see.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
The top of the tower of Minas Gil looked like this when we got up there. Was a bit rainy. Five Shadow Sorcerers and ...
His name is Gulbenn, 17K mp, and he's not the worst of what you will need to deal with. But, I was so busy, I forgot to take a screenshot of him!! AARGH! *sigh Well, I'll have another character up there sometime to remedy my mistake.
Re: Aphadrim uin Calad Looking for a Few Good Players
Like so much of Mirkwood, it's a dark and dreary entrance to Sad Meryrn, where the huorns are. Huorns are walking trees, two of which you can see in the back, and most of them in the game don't like us.
