Honestly sounds a bit overkill to me, given that I can do a good deal of that with a game such as the Sims (at least the pure housing stuff). All I really want are more practical aspects to a house, and the ability to put larger items in my yard outside (I want my own tents and ruins, my kin's filled up the spot with a fountain). Any more, well, it'd be nice, but I'm not planning on asking for it or anything.
Even though the thread is nearly 3 1/2 years old, and housing is still the ugly and ignored stepchild of the game, I and many, MANY other fluff lovers have no intention of giving up hope that someday we will get a housing revamp (along with a kinship revamp and an expansion of the hobbies category) and that maybe some of the collected ideas in this thread will be used. I'm not holding my breath but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Stranger things have happened.
LOVE this idea. I hate that if I want to upgrade my house I cant sell but instead ,must find somewhere to stash all my items then abandon it
When you abandon a house all the stuff goes into the home owner's escrow, unless an item is bound to another character, in which case that item will go into the other character's escrow. So you don't really need to find a place to store your stuff before abandoning. Not saying that abandoning is a good system, just telling how it works. It's a far shot better than the feeding frenzy that would happen if rich players could buy up all the properties and sell them to the highest bidder.
Glad to see this thread still getting posts. I too am hopeful that Turbine will realize the gold mine that could be had from a housing revamp. Heck, they could even charge $10 cold cash for a housing expansion and I bet more players than just me would jump at it. ... or have I said too much?
I've been on about housing for years. I like most of the idea except the part that adds the usage requirement. Home should be a place to rejuvenate and rest. Being required to use the house for a set amount of time adds stress, in addition to giving us more things to remember.
Keeping this thread top-listed.
And will help keeping it up till something is done with it.
Please don't do that. If you look at the Forum Guidelines stickied at the top of the page, you'll find that "bumps" are not allowed here. In fact, they will sometimes get a thread Closed, and that would be a real shame in this case. While I'm not all that optimistic they'll spend much in the way of limited resources on housing, it's definitely something I'd enjoy.
Why has nothing ever been done with this? Even to just implement the decoration and crafting portions would be a nice benefit. It makes no sense to "buy local" as the hints tell us if we have to then travel to even use the local items.
Come on turbine make this happen this thread was made in 08 fo christ sake it is one of the few suggestions that many ppl would like to see why do you all not care about the housing system it is one of the few things in the game you have not tried improving same goes for hobbies
Something I'd like to see: 'meeting table' furniture. A huge table with a lot of chairs around it that can be used by individual character.'
That, and our characters not rising from their chairs at each emote.
Then a kin meeting could be held in style
This reminds me of the one new interior they have added in Bree. There is a long table with chairs all around. If you have not done that quest chain I suggest you do. Then again you might blow your top when you see the neat things they have added but yet cannot do any of this with housing.
I love the idea but honestly it would take some serious investment by Turbine to make it happen doubt we'll see it but i agree some improvement is requiered for both housing and hobby systems.
Thanks a lot! I started watching that in the wee hours this morning and never did make it into the game. That is one loooong video post! LOL (But quite interesting to be honest.)
I'm not sure I'd want Buckingham Palace as my Elf Hunter's/Dwarf RuneKeeper's/Hobbit Warden's/or even Race-of-Man Burglar's/et al home, but I think I know what you're getting at in a rather exaggerated way . We want to be able to customize and change our homes as we see fit and as it suits our fancy just as the Palace did throughout it's history - simple or extravagant; tastefully elegant or gaudily grandiose; themed or eclectic; utilitarian or exorbitant; sparse or over-flowing - and with that I am in full agreement.

With a freestyle system of item placement instead of the current static hook system, a meeting table would be easy to set up. I used one in my EQ2 home for many of my Officer meetings (the Guild meetings were usually WAY to large to get everyone around a table, even when lining them up straight though the rooms LOL). And I definitely agree with you on the emotes. I and many others have been asking for combo emotes for a long time, especially while sitting.
After getting to lvl 45 after a looonnngggg grind I got rather fed up with killing stuff. I was also pretty sick of crafting having just achieved Supreme Master with the Woodworking Guild (and we all know what a nightmare THAT is). So the ONLY thing that would have kept me around until I reset would have been farming and playing house with my gf. But because the housing system was so atrocious and Turbine made it clear (through their silence and lack of implementing any damn thing in the 2 major updates while I was playing) they weren't gonna do a blessed thing about it I decided to just pull up posts and find somewhere else to set-up camp. It annoyed my gf but she understood since it really frustrated her too. Mr. "I'd just play Sims if I wanted that" consider cases like ours. She does like to explore and adventure every now and again but mostly she liked to stick around the Shire and farm with her little hobbit to keep the guild supplied. If there were a decent housing system I, as a more wandering adventure type, would have been more inclined to stick it out so I could make and get stuff for her to decorate with because we enjoyed having a game we could actually play together and, just as in life, I'd want to get her things to make her happy. Hell, I might have even been able to cox her out of the Shire more often if she could actually DO anything with the stuff she found! But since there was literally no incentive for me to stick around (farming was something I liked to do with her between runs but wasn't really my thing) I didn't. And obviously she wouldn't stick around after I quit. We even let out Lvl 7 guild go since most of our friends had already quit by that point and honestly whats really the point of a guild house anyway other than glorified group storage?
The idea was to take a breather and maybe come back but instead I found a new game to play with a system I didn't find to be quite so tedious and by that point she was so disillusioned she had little will to dive back in either.
Here it is just over a year later and I decided to come back by and check my favorite little thread to see if anything had changed since she was recently lamenting over missing that time together in middle earth. While still not a big fan of the combat mechanics, I am still hugely interested in housing and was hoping SOMETHING had happened. Believe it or not, if I actually had some creative license over my property I'd be more inclined to start playing again and picking up some of those new decorations I been hearing about. But alas, same #### different year. Whats the point of new decorations if I got nowhere to put them? It took all of my creative juices to make a decent living space with the sub-par system they have. I'd want to add to it, not take away from it just to add new stuff in the same place and possibly off-setting the whole friggin look. So I'm not going to bother re-downloading it cause frankly it'd just piss me off again.
This thread has been around this long and they just now got around to finally putting a mailbox in and some minor tweaks to the hook system I highly doubt I'd notice?
Thanks but no thanks! Hopefully something comes out soon with an engaging crafting system AND decent housing so we can have something to play together again.

Xcuse guys for violating the policies since this may be a "bump" - post ?¿
However, I'll try to throw in more than just a PING.
I'm glad about all the new festivals and craftable Firework, so there are many good new things.
But I'm not so happy about all the energy being put into Raids. And this has thrown up a question for me as a LTS. I always thought it’s a good thing to actively support the Game when buying Updates & TPoints. I and my girlfriend bought anything since 5 years and we both have LTS since the beginning. We further bought Points for about 200$. Further we have a Premium running for the Kids. But we both know we could survive without any investments easily.
The question raised shames me, anyway it came up :-\
Is it worth to buy Rohan if NOT interessted to some quests and especially not into raiding ?
Buying Rohan could be a sign to subscribe the strategy of Turbine: TO DO NOT CONSIDER SUCH THREADS AS THIS ONE IS ?
In the german forums its clear no-one ever gives a feedback there. But I'd expected feedbacks here, especially if such an old thread is getting that much feedbacks and attention.
No, I dont need flying mounts or open pvp :-)
I think some few updates on housing would make me happy already.
Maybe thats an idea for the Update after Rohan ? I would however spend money again if there is something in of the wishlist above those awesome 31 pages.
Very strange bug here. Anyone else see the antique-white background highlight on every use of the word 'housing' in this thread? Also, in the very beginning of the OP is the only exception - the word 'revamp' has the same antique-white background highlight. There isn't any way to duplicate the highlight with the forum editor either and I know that I didn't copy/paste anything into here lately, especially throughout the whole thread. Very weird.
EDIT - Weirder & weirder. I tried everything that I could think of to get those highlights to disappear before posting about them thinking that it might just be an anomaly in my system. They remained no matter what I tried. I posted the above and ***POOOF!***, gone. WTH?!?!
I love most of these ideas..Unfortunately, I think a lot of them would be impossible, like designing our own houses and the 'counter' in homesteads and moving unused houses to alternate neighborhoods; but some would be easy.
Removing 'hooks' so furniture could be placed at will, adding extra rooms or an additional house size, crafting tables and ovens and producing garden beds, are all easy to do and would not be hard to code.
My husband and I like to play and RP together. We have 4 couples between us and we find it difficult to share 2 houses with such limited decorating scope, and LOTRO IS supposed to be an RP game.. even if most of the population doesn't RP. Shared storage is great for transfering craft matts between toons but I'd really like to use my house for more than that; to 'entertain' guests and such.
Oh yes.. Adder.. Turbine is hiring. Perhaps you could APPLY??
oh colorful and wonderful ideas, so well thought out, straight forward to implement(just got to do some code). I mean what a game this would be if they did the things in threads like this, I'd probably still be playing.
+rep to the OP for such a well thought out proposed revamp for housing. It's been four years since this thread was made, and sad to see no attention had been paid to housing. Even if Turbine only used a quarter of the ideas listed here I know many many folks would be happy.
If you ever have some free time to spend on housing, developers, please take a look here and see what you could implement.
This is the first forum petition I have ever /signed and I've seen a lot come and go in my life. This would be sucha draw, such a money maker and such a great way to retain players. It's a scientific fact, established in 1567 by Sir Isaac Newton in his Principia MMOtica, that one third of online gamers are housing addicts. Dang fact and all, if you take my meaning.
there is another thread in suggestions with a cool idea, the addition of stables for our yard. imagine how cool it would be to have all our mounts standing there eating hay!
He will come to death, an image of the splendor of the kings of Men, in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, Housing Redesign... you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief under the fading trees... until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent.
/sigh
Throw us a crumb at least.
'I have come,' he said. 'But I do not choose now to do what I came to do. I will not do this deed. The Ring is mine!' J.R.R. Tolkien
I totally am pro this... especially the freestyle furnishing and being able to own multiple houses (at least for multiple characters...).
The housing system could be so much more than it is.
/signed /signed /signed /signed /signed /signed /signed a million times, and a million times more! and another million at that! I LOVE THE IDEA AND PRAY THAT IT HAPPENS!!!!!!!! TURBINE LISTEN TO HIM AND MAKE IT AS UPDATE AFTER RoR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good work, but I don't think anything is going to change(this was made 4 years ago). Turbine just don't cares about housing.
Oh yes they do care. It's a topic among the devs (confirmed by Kate Piaz). It has just not made the move from topic to action yet.
They should test the waters for economic feasibility of housing as TP-sink by adding something new to the store, like for example a stable as Khafar mentioned in another thread. Or a cellar with an optional house chest as house-expansion. Something like that.
I predict it'll be a bestseller among single-use accountwide store-items. Then they'll realize how much more TP they can milk from housing.
I keep hoping they will do something with housing, but nothing ever happens. If only we could @ least own one house per character, instead of account. That woudl give us a lot more decorating options!!!
