I just got my bagpipes and without going into great detail, playing them means a lot to me in RL and in game. I have literally 100's of abc noted songs already and have searched for specific songs for the bagpipes. I am finding 2 things.
There are very very few songs written for the pipes in LOTRO music and that using a abc converter on a standard midi score creates very peculiar results.
Does anyone know why I always get messages about "Line XYZ having a note that is too low"? I am not familiar with the abc coding per say and using the tools on thfatelute.com, I gave it the noobs once over in the Midi editing tool, but if I look at the midi in event notation at the offending line, I don't see a way to raise the note at all.
I hope these ramblings make sense and if anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks!
If you have any notes in your file with 2 (or more) "," ie "A,," they are two low and will generate "note to low error".
You can some times get away with just changing those notes to single "," notes, and song will sound fine.
The range of notes that LOTRO music system will play is C, to c'
Thanks for the reply! I finally figured out that the octave range was restrictive and have dug into mastering abc's. So far so good and now am experimenting with different drone sounds and tempos. I am really trying to find the range and abilities of the drums in game as a 5 or 6 person band, 2 harmony, 2 melody pipers and 2 drummers would be fantastic. I am Gurtax on Landroval if anyone is looking to have some fun. So far I have managed to tick off several people that I'm guessing aren't used to 110 decibels, albeit these are far from the HGP's in game.
I just want to say that the site rocks! Although, I'm a little disappointed that there aren't any songs by Incubus... specifically their song Anna Molly. I don't suppose anyone would be awesome enough to submit that would they?
I have been unable for some time to log on. I tried resetting the password, and having it sent to me, but it won't recognize my email (Hotmail). For this reason I can't send a message to Warden, either.
I tried sending a PM to Warden, but have had no response.
Help!
Mandli: Now I know how the elves feel. All the magic is leaving Middle Earth.
Anyone that has tried to reset their password or send me an email through "Email Warden" would not have succeeded because an error with the email server. I fixed it yesterday so email resets, email warden, and song change notifications should be working again.
Yesterday's fix was the first time I touched TFL since May 8th (as the Announcements section stated). I gotta tell ya, it was nice to get back into coding a hobby site again. So nice, I'm gonna try to start making some improvements again. If you check the home page, you'll notice I put up a list of possible additions I will make to the site. Members are welcome to vote on the choices and in 2-3 weeks (maybe sooner), i'll start working my way down from highest voted.
If you have other plans for the site, email me the suggestion and I'll put it up in the list for other to vote on.

Very cool site! I've downloaded a ton of songs and I'm looking forward to annoying everybody I know with my bagpipes.
Speaking of which, a "sort by instrument" feature would be very cool, in your oodles of spare time...

One of the choices for improvement is "More way to search/sort/view the song list". If that makes the cut, sorting, searching, and/or filtering by instrument will definitely be included. That was actually supposed to be one of the initial features of TFL, but Figgy made me do other things first and then it was too late. BTW, anything you don't like on the site is probably Figgy's fault. On the other hand, anything you do like, is also probably Figgy's fault.
Just as a heads up for people that don't read TFL front page...in preparation for the future changes coming to the site, I'm starting to try to organise the ABCs we do have. There are a lot of repros under different names, lots of typos and inconsistancies, so I've been going through some of the ABCs grouping them together under the same banner. This is so if, lets say, we were ever going to add searching by genres or anything quite so spiffy then it'll be easier further down the road as well as being easier to use now!
You may find that some of your ABC titles/artists have changed slightly. Don't panic about it, but if you're unhappy with what I've done then drop me a line.

Very, very good site! Thefatlute is my main source for ABC files and have highly recomended using the easy tutorial to my kinmates (aspiring musicians to-be) and the songbook has a huge variety of songs readily available.
Keep up the great work =D

Yea im new to the game and check out The Fat Lute just last night. I got a nice set of abc's for now. Being new, I dont know if it was just the site or my ignorance, but I found it a bit difficult to tell what I was getting and wound up with a couple ABC's that I would play in game only to find out it's a drum piece or such and currently I can only use the lute and clarinet i think.

When you click on a song and go to it's page, you will see anywhere from 1 to 9 separate file windows. Each one will give you the instrument that is suggested to be used for it.
If there is only one file window, the piece is a solo piece and will still have a suggestion for what instrument to use. stick with the solo's for now till you see how things work. Read the ABC Tutorial section on the site, it will be a big help even if you never intend to make any files yourself.

1 to 6, you mean? You can't have more than 6 parts for the same song in LotRO? Or does /sync work for a raid and not just a fellowship?

Yes u can have 24 in a raid, and 24 peeps can play a separate file (I have seen this, it's awesome). I believe on the fat lute u can post up to 9 parts of a file. The tenth voice (V:10) will always be a drum file, that's the way the original ABC file format was written long before LOTRO. So if u do have a multi part file that is over 9 parts, you would have to post it with more then one post. and I think it would have to be broken up into individual files by the peeps that are going to play it, because I don't think (not sure) that the X: command is going to work if u go over 9 parts, unless maybe if the 10th part (voice) is the drum track.
Something seems to be wrong with thefatlute.com today. T'ain't nothing there.

I have 750 gigs of hosting space and 2 terabytes of bandwidth a month that's paid up for the next 2 years. I can easily re-host anything you had as long as you can still export the database. I'll even pay for the domain name renewal and give you full control. Please contact me. I'm supremely sad that this wonderful resource has gone away. I've relied on fat lute for the last year and would hate to see all that work go to waste.
I'm looking for a song called "Deedlit's Lute" from Record of Lodoss War. I can only find MP3s of it. Has a nice Lute and Harpsicord mix to it that I thought would be nice to convert to ABC. Can't find a MIDI file of it to work with. Any suggestions?
I just wanted to post to advise everyone to look at the recommended instruments in the songs I've posted on the Fat Lute. Specifically, the Traditional pieces. Someone has tried them and rated them with very poor ratings (ie below 10). Everyone should be aware that most of those songs are written specifically for BAGPIPES, which means they'll sound horrible on any other instrument, what with the drone, flourishes and grace notes.
If you don't have bagpipes, don't try the songs that say they're FOR bagpipes.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to say thanks for your concern of my haxor troubles. As a token of my appreciation for your appreciation I'll be doing some updates to the site to the mercy of Figgy's discretion.
As I work in the new upgrades, I'm also rewriting a lot of the backend to be more scalable and easier to develop. As a result, please bear with me if you experience intermittent downtime or server errors.
FYI, if you get a 404 error, its not really a resource not found. Its something I screwed up in the code. As I cannot test every aspect of the site before I push, if you get one of these 404s please report them in this thread as I may not know the error is occuring.
FYI+, I just found out that the Password Reset, Registration, and Email Validation pages have been down for approx 2 days. I think I got those glitches all worked out so let me know if you have any more troubles with those.
Hello! Im getting a error when i navigate to the fat lute in both IE and Firefox.
