Thread: Move character to another account/subscription?

I have a paid year subscription to LOTRO. My brother thought he would like to play and so I have been letting him play on my account. I would like to buy him his own account and subscription, but he has said he doesn't want to start over again (he has already gotten a ways with his character). Is there any way to transfer his character to another account if we bought a second subscription? Second question is if we can switch the character's account, would it be better to make a whole new login name and
account for him, or can I just pay for another subscription and we both login under my account and just each select different subscriptions? (I've noticed we can't log in at the same time on the same subscription (obviously))

In any case, if it is not possible to switch his character to a new account/subscription, I doubt he will want to play anymore.

Unfortunately this option is not currently available. It is possible we may offer this in the future at which point we would announce it on these forums.

I would value the option highly to transfer a character between two accounts. We have two accounts in our family, but the two most advanced characters are on one account, and we would really like to be able to use these two characters together. Would be happy to pay a fee for this option.

Not sure what the reasons are for not offering this option; I'm sure appropriate rules would prevent abuse or exploitation, if that is an issue. One option would be to offer it on a one-time basis. I suspect it would lead to an increase in activity and maybe the creation of new accounts.

FWIW (and if it will help push it with the powers that be), Blizzard allows character transfers (for the standard xfer fee) between accounts assuming the accounts are at the same billing address/owner.

I too would like to switch 2 characters from one account to another. My 2 accounts are under the same name & on the same server.

I'll add my voice to this. I just bought my fiance a new laptop as a birthday present and included LOTRO on it. We would love to be able to play our old characters together. Right now they are both on my account so we cannot do this.

I'd like this option too. Would be happy to pay a fee for it.

I also have two subscriptions under one account. I'd like to move a character from one subscription to the the other. Same server. I'd also pay a fee to do this.

So, Turbine, please consider this a request for enhancement (RFE)! Thanks!

I too am waiting for this service. My older son and I would like to have our characters on separate accounts so that we can play the game together without starting new characters from scratch. It would certainley revive our interest in the game.

Any updated word on this being an option for players? It seems like as long as the billing address is the same, there should be no reason to prohibit a character move like this. My husband and I have a similar scenario as above, one account we share , but would gladly pay a fee to transfer his character to a new account, so we can play together. Lotro is an excellent game that seems to be getting better and better. Allowing us to do this would only make us more likely to keep playing, and keep paying! Please, please, please make character transfers happen!

You know, the billing address is a brilliant way to govern this. Bravo for that idea!

ok I came to the forums today specifically to ask about this being considered by Turbine.

Seeing this thread I've decided to /sign it rather than create a new thread.

I see the Turbine CS response in the second post but would like to ask that Turbine make this a priority and get something operational.

I understand Rome wasn't built in a day but if it could be operational by the time, or at the same time the Expansion is released that would be great.

This could be a great marketing move Turbine !! Lotro is cheap to buy and subscribe to atm so a lot of people sharing accounts with family members could be enticed to set up second accounts if you allowed this. This would be a great way of increasing the number of accounts that need to be upgraded when you release the expansion

I don't have time, but perhaps someone can post a link to this thread on specific server forums so people can come and sign it?

There's at least a couple husband/wife teams in our kin that would LOVE to have this service available. Really hamstrings them as to what characters they can play. We may need a certain class for a raid or something, and one or the other is locked into playing a specific other character because they didn't initially know they were going to get two accounts

My doughter is intrested in playing, and I am letting her check out the game on my account. If she decides she likes it as much as I have been it would be nice to be able to so this so she can keep her character. I also would be willing to pay for this service.

There really is no reason at all to have your daughter play on your subscription. Simply create a trial account for her. She can try the game, and if she likes it, you will be able to upgrade the trial for her, and she will keep her characters. She will have 14 days to find out if she likes it.

Turbine may someday offer this service, but with the availability of free trials and guest referrals, there just isn't a reason to have anyone "try" the game on another player's account. Beyond that 14 day window, it isn't trying the game out, it is account sharing. I do understand that sometimes people are under financial constraints, and don't want to pay for a second account, but when they know (or should know) this service isn't available, then they are sharing accounts at their own risk. Paying for that second account may be far less painful in the long run.

I don't really think 14 daysis long enough to trial any MMO. I recognise it's sort of a standard though and so every MMO just keeps trotting out the same trial conditions.

me and 3 mates play lotro, but 2 of them have moved on, i would love to merge all the 50's into 1 account so i can just pay for a lifetime subscription. because at the moment there subscriptions are gonna run out and never be used again.

My wife never realized how obsessed she'd get with this game and it'd be nice to send her char over to her own account so we can actually play together now.

Agreed here, I know a number of my Kin Members are in this same situation, as is my family. It is frustrating not to be able to play our main characters together or to have to miss scheduled events since only one can play their main at a time. A fee and safeguards are appropriate, and I do hope this might occur once the hubbub over Mines of Moria settles a bit. We would play a lot more if we could do a one-time switch of characters between these two accounts. I am , in fact, suprised this is not available already. It would encourage more enthusiastic game play!

Our family recently bought a second account and we want to move half our characters to the new one.
Hope the ability to do so is included in MoM.

I am also waiting to see if this becomes available with MoM.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. My wife who is a 50 lvl Capt and I being a 50 lvl Guardian desperatly wish to join forces (and kins) and take on the forces of Angmar.

My wife and I have been waiting, too. I would never have tried the game unless she had her account first. Once I became hooked, and we learned the rules, we promptly bought a second account. We'd be grateful for the chance. I'm writing a review for holiday editions of a newspaper and a magazine, and this is my only (very minor) complaint in otherwise GLOWING reviews. ;-)

I know you guys are busy atm, support page activity makes that apparent but I really really hope this is in the pipeline for when premium services are re-opened .... pretty please.

I would be willing to pay a good 25 dollars to get my captain onto a different account and have mentioned how wonderful it would be to have her ON a different account at least once a week since she was rolled up.

I agree with this. Especially with the extra character slots now available, it would make it more convenient to have a character that's on one of my accounts moved to my main account.

It actually wouldn't be as much of an issue if you could switch accounts/characters/servers without having to log all the way off, but from what I understand how the launcher works, that wouldn't be an option.

I will buy another lifetime account if they add this specific option. I would like to split my current characters onto two different accounts so I can have them travel with each other and also to game with my family.

I will once again express my strong interest (and willingness to pay) in relation to the option to move a character between accounts, or to a new account if necessary. Thanks.

I now have four members of my family playing characters on my one account. If the ability to transfer characters to another linked account was available, I would buy another (possibly more) accounts straight away.
