Well hi everyone, I'm not exactly new, but I've never noticed this thread before! (I don't really come on the forums very often anyway.)

I've been playing LoTRO since September last year, after having a 6 month break from MMOs - WoW specifically, which I no longer play - and I have two 50's and lead Southern Cross as well! I'm a 20 year old student from Australia, and I love this game dearly, as I have a lifetime subscription and can't wait until MoM is released I also have ab Xbox 360, Xbox and N64 (and a few old gameboys lying around >.>) which I dig up occasionally, heh.

I also have a R3 Warg named Rikmuz but the PvP is a bit annoying at the moment so none of that happening :P

This thread would be much more universally useful if it were titled "Single Girl Gamers".

I'm not a girl, but I'm raising a girl gamer and with this fancy lifetime sub, she might be posting on this board someday so watch out!

    I'll leave now. Bye Bye.

    Re: Girl Gamers

Hi, I'm new to the game and am trying to behave by not playing the game right now (have to cram for a test) so I'm reading the forums instead. Not as easy to lose a few hours in here as it is running around saying, "Just one more quest, and then I'll log off!"

I can't say I've been gaming for a really long time...well, 6 years at least, and 4 in RPGs. Started out as a teeny-tiny minority female playing Battlefield 1942 then discovered my first RPG in Anarchy Online. Then I moved on to Guild Wars, WoW, and now I'm here. I explore, therefore I am. And not being big on raiding, I'd seen just about every square inch of Azeroth and Outlands apart from dungeons and stuff, so it was time to move on.

I'm a student, but am "all growed up". I sold my home and moved back home with my mom so I could go back to school and maybe get into medical school in a few years. I'm currently taking summer school for Grade 12 (does that show my Canadian-ness right there?) physics, then I start a Bachelor of Science program in September. School is SO much better than working at a job I hated...yay for no more insomnia-inducing stress! Woot!

All of my toons are girls. Mostly because I just think the female characters are nicer to look at (well, to be honest, I did make a couple of Blood Elf male toons in WoW...they're kinda hot for cartoons) but also because I almost feel weird, like I'm misrepresenting myself if I play a guy. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate the anonymity of the intarweb, LOL!

Anyhow, I have a level 20 hobbit minstrel and am really enjoying the game. See ya around!

    Re: Girl Gamers

    Guy here...

I've never understood the misconception that no girls play MMOs, or that the ones that do are all nerdy geeks. I started in EQ1, and one of our two guild leaders was female. The guild itself had about a 1:2 female/male ratio, and I knew most of them in RL... they were not geeks. In fact, most of them were quite good-looking women. Eq2, same thing, WoW seemed a bit more male-centric, but still around 1:3 or 1:4 female/male. Lots of Elendilmir creeps are female, as well as the freepside. I'd say almost half of my current kinship is female.

My ex-wife played EQ1 and EQ2 for a long time, and early on she started making only male characters, as her female characters were the targets of all kinds of comments in-game. She saved one female character as a bazaar mule, because she could charge a higher price for goods than the male ogre sitting next to her... and get it (on a AFK auction toon, no less).

To those women who deal with the "OMG ur a gurl?!" reaction... We're not all like that. I take people as they are, and I've found that male/female/eunuch/whatever, it doesn't really matter as long as everyone is having fun.

I used to get that a lot when I played Battlefield. In my gaming clan of maybe 30 or 40 who played regularly, there were about 4 women. My first in-game name was pretty much my real name and I got tons of idiotic comments from non clan members, so I changed my name to something totally gender-neutral. Everyone assumed I was just another guy (until they heard my voice) and I was perfectly fine with that.

I'm happy to say that in the years since then it has become more apparent that more women are playing these days, so the "idiot factor" contributing comments like "girls don't play games" has pretty much disappeared.

Tal! (Tara btw) You are so right, but believe it or not I actually wasn't that far away from you playing closed beta as well. I actually got into beta before any of my homeboys did, but I didn't really do that great a job of lvling instead of socializing. Probably why I never ran into you. Odd though, had it not been for them, I would never have played Star Wars Galaxies, much less beta tested this game. Just wish I could've gotten my founders account back

We get very excited. We play "pick the accent" and try and guess which state group-mates are from.

We mean no offense, we just love grouping, and the fact you guys are SO FAR AWAY! I don't know what to make of your reference to superior. Is that a perceived Aussie trait? Self-perceived?

Easily entertained? Yup. Fun to group with? We hope so!

There is it again...another male that just hasn't figured out that women's abilities are not tied to their looks.

I know you were trying to be supportive, but seriously...it will go better for you through your life if you just stop before making the "smart...*and* looks good" type comments.

i'm a girl, from western australia

i love meeting (well talking) to new people... but i'm still freaked out that i could tell that someone in my fellowship group was from louisianna after they spoke one sentence the other day.

i can't even tell the difference in accents between states in australia (besides qld) and to be able to point out that this player was from a particular place like that... made me go a bit o_0

i've fellowed with ulygar before, i love playing with him just to hear him speak, i even went and got a proper head set so we could have proper conversations

    Lighten up, Francis :P

Responses like that tend to reinforce certain opinions of women, which I thankfully do not hold to anyway.

Now you have made me laugh. Classic redirect/recovery response.

And just because I'm obnoxious that way...there were no winks in your OP.

My other unsolicited advice...don't come to a hen party and try to point out how understanding you are of women...it never works. Just leave us to our girl talk.

Heh, Figgy, I know a few young men who get quite tied up in knots when you are on voice. (No, I'm not going to say who.) They always mention you by name whenever the topic of conversation shifts to 'best voices on E'.

    Hello fellow gamer chicks!!

I reside on the west coast, and I've only been playing LOTRO since December of last year. I used to play WoW, but my husband converted me (and showed me the light!). <3 him for that!

I knew I was in trouble when I asked him if I could create a 2nd account for my 6th character So, now I have:

    50 Captain - Evanea
    50 LM - Ola
    42 Guard - Sephorea
    35 Mins - Nadeya
    22 Burg - Sasae
    15 Champ - Gamerchick
    15 Hunter - Limeone

My husband has a lot of friends at work who play LOTRO, and their wives play as well. It's a lot of fun for us to group around and attack CD or Annunimas together in a full group. We're all looking forward to MoM launching later this year--in fact, we're all planning our vacation when the launch date is released

I'm so proud to be female gamer on the Elendilmir server! Girls ROCK!

The first step in the recovery process is admitting you have a problem.

I keep seeing this thread and forgetting to reply to it. Girl gamer and mom here. I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the number of girls in LotRO. They are definitely growing! SWG was my first game and I think I met all my fellow "real girls" on the forums. They were all in different galaxies.

I played as a wookiee (I told my husband I wanted to be a 7 foot blond who got to run around naked all the time), so most people assumed I was a guy. Apparently no one but fellow wookiees could tell the difference. One of my guildies who had known me for over a year didn't realize I was a girl until I announced I was pregnant. Only drawback to being a female wookiee was that I was one of the only ones on the server, so I picked up a few furry stalkers when they realized I was the only girl of their species around. O.O Weird.

Since most people assumed I was a guy I got to compare attitudes towards me as a male and me as a female and honestly they were not that different. I've been lucky to have run into mostly quality people in my time playing. Since playing this game and realizing how many girl characters are actually girls when I hear them in voice chat, it makes me wonder how many real girls there were in SWG that I just assumed were guys.

LOL. I usually do create a male avatar in each game to see how things differ. I never use voice chat, so nobody would know either way anyhow. It's got the same kinda thrill as trying to sneak into the boys bathroom as a kid.

This made me choke on my coffee for some reason. I remember on a school field trip a bunch of us girls raided the boy's bathroom because the line at the girls room was SO long. There was only one boy in the bathroom (luckily in a stall). While we were all sitting there doing our business he finally said, in an awed tone, "Wow. I've never peed next to a girl before." It was too cute!

I often wonder things like, when boys use the stalls do they check out the shoes of the person next door?

    Probably not.

OMG! I'm TOTALLY an alt-o-holic. However, I'm resisting the urge to create more by leaving two spots open for the new classes opening with MoM.

    The big question now is...

Which level 50 toon will I play to 60? Or, do I play all of them a little at a time? Hmmm...decisions, decisions! What are you guys gonna do? Please share!

    That one's easy...

I'm going to play the Warden to level 20 or so, and if it isn't what I hope it is, then I'm going to level the only other character I play, my Minstrel. :P

I don't have the problem of alt-oholism, so I'll likely do my hunter, then minstrel.

Biggest reason I don't do alts is because I never want to go through the Lone Lands ever again :P
Elendilmir (the raid toons): LAERWEN, 80 htr ♦ OLORIEL, 75 min ♦ AETHELIND, 75 capt ♦ ROSALLA, 75 burg
Landroval (the RP toons): LAERLIN (Bio + Drawing) ♦ AETHELIND (Bio + Drawing) ♦ NETHAEL

    cuz I have a 50 min, 50 captain, 50 hunter, 50 LM, 23 guard, 17 champ, 16 burg, 14 mins, and another 11 burg

naaahhhh I take it back Im not an alt-aholic!!!!
Im an altoholic too *sigh* i can never work out what character i should level from day to day

But i love all of them!

Im thinking i might give the two new classes a chance when the xpac comes out, i have two spots on my two accounts saved for them, and then if neither of them takes my fancy i will probably end up levelling my hunter first to 60 and then my captain. Thats providing i havent gotten any other 50s before then though, would really like to get my LM,Guard and Minstrel there sometime :P

Its really nice to see all the girls around here! Especially the ones from Oz!

    Re: Girl Gamers

I was standing in EB Games with my three kids today discussing MoM with the guy at the counter. The store wasn't really busy and we started to chat about mmorpg's we'd played. I don't usually get to use gamer-speak in rl (none of my rl friends are gamers) so it was refreshing for me to use all the acronyms and stuff that we do in-game. After a little while I had that 'you are being watched' type of feeling. I glance off to the left.....2 'we work out at the gym for 8 hour a day' type young guys in the fps section looking at me as if I'd sprouted horns....that's cool .... I can deal. Glance to the right.....3 goth/emo teenage guys in the rpg section who were paler than usual and one even had his mouth wide open in shock...ok starting to feel strange. The thing that freaked me out the most were the two really geeking looking nerd types behind me who were smiling like all their christmases had come at once.

I'm still trying to work out if it was the fact I am a girl....the fact I am older....the fact that I am a mother or all three that had them all looking that way.
