    Red face Girl Gamers

It seemed when I first started playing lotro I was the only female playing. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that felt that way :P LoTROL is my first game and I have been playing since closed beta and still having a blast! Im a mom of 3 BEAUTIFUL girls and live in Tennessee. Yeah, I'm a country girl accent and all. Born and raised in the south It seems the population of girl gamers are growing too and that is SO awesome. I want to hear others stories of how they came to play lotro, what class you are and how you are enjoying it or not. I enjoy meeting new peeps and hearing their stories Well that's it for now. CHEERS!! ~Talya

    Re: Girl Gamers

As has been stated in many forum topics, just because a player in the game has a female persona, doesn't necessarily mean the real life player is female.

I have mostly gone back to WoW because I can't find that many mature people to play with here. And LOTRO doesn't seem very 'solo play' oriented or friendly. At least in WoW I have a real pet to 'hide behind'

I still enjoy Lords but only with a mature group that isn't bouncing of walls and ordering people around to play 'their' game, their way..

True. But we're around, in a higher population than many seem to realize.

Girl gamer here- joined for the LOTR aspect of it, but fell in love with the gaming aspect of it. Still a student, though

I hope a lot don't realize, I get really tired of little adolescent hormone bombs

I like it guys play girls (for whatever reason) makes it a lot easier to have a decent game when some guy thinks "Could I actually be trying to chat up a ugly 50ish guy?"

I'm a real girl...and this is my first MMO...and loving it still. I have a group of table top D&D friends (talk about a lack of females gamers) and they talked me into trying LOTRO after I finished up my master's degree. LOL...now I play way more than they do!

Yupper. My kinship is actually more biased on the estrogen side of things. The women just outnumber the men, barely, but that is a good thing; well balanced and all.

Silliest quote of the year award.

The maturity of WoW is way below that here.I have found the proportion of female players willing to admit that they are playing is a lot higher in this game than any other I have played, thus proving the more mature community here let's them feel safer and allows them the freedom to play the way they want to.

    Re: Girl Gamers

hm i've been playing online games since .. starcraft broodwars!
there's a game thats hard to be a girl in lol, that and diablo ii/lod.

lotro was my husbands thing while i played a different game, he lured me over during some downtime and now I'm stuck, ironically he stopped playing ;p

I think the funniest thing is to have the ingame voice on or log into vent, when people go 'oh you're really a girl?'. I wonder how many other ladies out there have heard that line on more than a few occasions hehe.

I've had an easier time with the Lotro community than some of the previous venues, so I'd have to agree with jj67 Less strange toadie guys that suddenly want to give you all their stone of jordans x_x lol

I enjoy all 5 of the classes I play, currently leveling a lore master

    Re: Girl Gamers

I have always enjoyed gaming with members of the other sex (yes I am male) in this and other games I have played and I find that they tend to be a bit more mature than their male counterparts in age correspondence, with few exceptions. Of course since coming from SWG, I have noticed that the maturity level of the general population in LotRO is a thousandfold better than SWG. The line at the horse races is proof enough at that.

Spoken like one of the people I was referring to..Thanks for making my point.

True, there is immaturity in WoW but I have found more mature player there than I have here.

And I have been playing MMO's since day one (I was on BBS's and playing Trade Wars and BRE before the internet was even made public) and I was on the internet before the web was even around (and only nerds knew about the internet) playing the first MMO's, we called them MUDS

No offense but, you went back to WoW because you cant find mature players HERE?

EDIT: On reflection, could the fact that you find more mature players in WoW possibly be because you've spent far more time there and have given yourself time in that game to develop friends with mature attitudes and weed out the pain-in-the-rears?

*waves* Girl gamer right here. I've always loved gaming and Lord of the Rings, thus when the opportunity came to play online I just couldn't pass it up, plus I had a nudge from a few friends who play as well (all males, ironically).

I play a elf minstrel mainly because a friend wanted a healer, but I loved playing her so I just kept her. Edhellreth - 46.

    Yay! A girly thread!

Completely ignore the forum handle, it's a rather old joke. I am a gal from sunny old England. A medical student in my final year. I'm 22 and I have no kids.

I vowed I'd never play an MMO because I was told how addictive they could be. Obviously I took that vow incredibly seriously, lol, LotRO seemed to be the exception to break the rule (and I even had someone pestering me to try WoW), as I'm a fan of the books I simply couldn't resist poking my nose in. I mean it's LotR, how could I say 'no'?

Then when I started to get to know some of the community members I was hooked, and I've been floating around for quite a while now. I managed to score a spot in Alpha 2 and have been here ever since - well over a year now - and it has been fun, but I was right: These games are highly addictive.

*jumps and waves* I'm an old-fashioned Pennslyvanian girl, currently 24, and I've been a gamer since I got a nintendo one christmas and I haven't looked back! XD This is definitely my favorite game (despite the nerfs that have been done to my main), and I'm gonna stick around for a long time!

I can't wait till we can visit and walk around Minas Tirith and jump off the tower of Ecthelion (sp?) and then later, jump in the Cracks of Doom! It'll be even more fun than the suicide jumps off of Weathertop!! XD XD

    Re: Girl Gamers

Another girl gamer here who swore she'd never play an MMO ... until LotRO came around. Who could possible resist Middle-earth? I completely agree with Bob ... this game is extremely addicting. I even got my hubby hooked on it so now we can play together!

And, while it's true that not every female avatar has a gal behind her, the same can be said of the male characters. I play a variety of toons, both female and male, and enjoy them all. In fact, I recently created a kinship for people who like to play alts, because I find it so much fun. </shameless self promotion>

Since I've never played any of the other MMO's, I can't comment on the maturity levels there, but I've been most please with the community on Elendilmir. I find the majority friendly, helpful and lots of fun. The exceptions are fairly easy to /ignore so all-in-all I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by my first MMO experience.

    Re: Girl Gamers

Another girl here and thanks for starting this thread. This was my first MMO and I too worried about the addictiveness of the game. I play tabletop DnD and enjoyed PC rpgs a lot. But I was never tempted to do the online thing until LOTRO. I am a huge Tolkien fan girl. I can still remember the wonder of it all; riding across the Brandywine Bridge while the music starts up; going into the Prancing Pony for the first time, seeing Rivendel - it has been an awesome experience. And the community has been great and that's what really hooked me (lifer now). I love my kinship. It is interesting though to still come across some of the players' reactions - wow you are really a girl? Have some other girls that have now joined my kin and they too have experienced some incredulity. And yeah, love the Ettenmoors (when I am not being ground to a pulp by a pack of wargs). ;=)

    Re: Girl Gamers

Girl Gamer here. 32 years old and I started way back on the apple 2e and the commodore 64. Old school adventuring. First real game I geeked out on was transylvania text game. Where there were no pictures you just had to type Go West and hit return (because thats what it was called). You name it and I have played it. I jumped from those two comps up to the Amiga, so on and so forth. (I still have those comps and their games retired in my parents attic)

I was really into Diablo and any shoot em up game that started with and after Duke Nuke em. I got hooked on Morrowind for a while and liked their concept of placing things in your house. I like that any item when thrown on the floor is either in a case or hung on a dummy.

My big thing was EQ where I played a barbarian shaman up until EQ 2 then took a break to have a life as it really was more aptly named Never Rest. I tried WoW and hated it. City of Heroes, Guild Wars etc. Natural progression to this one. I really loved the books and the movies so thought I would give this a shot.

I play a hunter and a minstrel both at max level or close though in truth I have always leaned towards burglars in every other game. I started back in beta and have taken breaks but always come back.

I'm always up for a group or fun or a taxi ride if you need just send a tell to Seladona.

P.S. as for the voice chat and people actually hearing I'm a female, like you I have had some shock and awe from other players. I was in a group of all men, half playing women and I stayed off mic for our entire gallavanting. Then when we were going to split up I got on mic and said thanks and look me up in the future if you need help.

I got tells right away and added to friends lists once they realized I was in fact female.

I'm a girl! I'm 25 and live in Ohio. This is the first MMO, RPG, online game I have ever played. I've always been a big Tolkien fan. I actually have a collection of stuff from the movies and at least 3 different complete sets of the books. This is the only reason I got started on this game. Now that I'm in, I'm hooked! I've never played in the moors though.

Button, quite a few of the creeps still think you're a girl. There's always someone saying "Let's get her!" in between us yelling "Press the button."

This was like reading a post I wrote except I didn't write it

Female gamer (40 something..or 39, again)... started way back on BBS
games like Trade Wars, Mutants and Kyrandia. Moved to Muds and then
Ultima Online beta. I loved UO for 6 years when my friends all left to try
out DAOC (which I loved - the RVR was awesome and my house!) then
WoW where I learned I am very competitive and I like to raid In between,
a bunch of short tries at some games I didn't like from the start:
Star Wars, vanguard, Horizons, Tale in the Desert, There, The Sims Online.

Thats when female gamers were really rare... except true geeks.
Yay geeks! I still remember seeing my first webpage and being unable to
find a book about how to write one. The first book taught me how to do
it in Notepad (which I still use).

LOTRO is one of the first MMO's I've found where there is actually a huge
female community. It's also one of the first with so many first time
MMO players -- which is a good thing -- but I think its also dumbed down
a bit and very easy - maybe because of the level of MMO experience of
    its player base.

(Dear boys who are lurking: There are some games with way more women
than men - check out The Sims Online or Second Life)

I too found the community in WoW to be much more mature.
Most of my guild was over 30 and very dedicated. I think many of the
WoW stereotypes come from people who played Alliance.
    For the Horde!

Oh man the bbs days! I'll never forget that sound of the modem connecting. I used to do alot of table DnD also along with Legends of the Five Rings and Rage.

As for the Moors they were great fun right before the exspansion. A group of 6 hunter and burgs lurking around in stealth, hit and hide. Those were the days. Alas it seems as though LOTRO staff is trying to weed out some of the hunters as there are so many of them.

I will find some new way to engage you creeps!

I'm a female gamer as well.

I started playing online roleplaying games about 11 years ago. I started with a text roleplaying game called DragonRealms. I then moved on to: Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes, Final Fantasy XI, Everquest II, World of Warcraft, Dungeon and Dragons Online, and LOTRO.

I still play City of Heroes and LOTRO.

There is still a perception out there that girls don't game. It really, really annoys me when male characters call me "man, dude, sir, etc" even though all my characters have been female. At one point, I got so fed up while playing World of Warcraft that I started calling guys "girl" or "chick" when they called me "man" or "dude."

I don't understand why guys think that girls dont' play online games because I've met LOTS of other girl gamers in most of the MMORPGs I've played. Well, anyways, three cheers for all of us girl gamers!

I can confirm Button most definitely does not sound girlish in voice-chat.

So ummm... when does the photo sharing start? I need to know who I should start stalking!

Though I already have my eye on that Negativeburn chick (this is going to go over all of your heads so don't even bother getting offended by it).

I play two high level female named characters and one high level male character. This raised quite a few eyebrows the first time I talked on mic with people I had grouped with for a while and they expected a softer voice and got someone that sounded more like a dwarf than a girl hobbit.

OMG! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who looks forward to this! I love my suicidal jumps off of Weathertop, the High Moors, and in Nan Gurth... Mt Doom and Minas Tirith are two deaths I'm really looking forward to! And you spelled Ecthelion correctly

Then when we were going to split up I got on mic and said thanks and look me up in the future if you need help.

I got tells right away and added to friends lists once they realized I was in fact female.
LOL. This is hilarious. I personally like claiming I'm a girl (if the topic comes up), letting people laugh, and then proving it when I use VC at the end of the quest :P You can just hear the "..." from them.

Ditto. My room is a *shrine*. I'm the typical midnight showing, convention goer, met at least 20 people who worked in the films type of person. Only reason I joined this game. But I'm hooked now for both the lore and gaming aspect of it. You should check out the Moors, they are a fierce, but fun place.
