It seemed when I first started playing lotro I was the only female playing. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that felt that way :P LoTROL is my first game and I have been playing since closed beta and still having a blast! Im a mom of 3 BEAUTIFUL girls and live in Tennessee. Yeah, I'm a country girl accent and all. Born and raised in the south It seems the population of girl gamers are growing too and that is SO awesome. I want to hear others stories of how they came to play lotro, what class you are and how you are enjoying it or not. I enjoy meeting new peeps and hearing their stories Well that's it for now. CHEERS!! ~Talya
As has been stated in many forum topics, just because a player in the game has a female persona, doesn't necessarily mean the real life player is female.
I have mostly gone back to WoW because I can't find that many mature people to play with here. And LOTRO doesn't seem very 'solo play' oriented or friendly. At least in WoW I have a real pet to 'hide behind'
I still enjoy Lords but only with a mature group that isn't bouncing of walls and ordering people around to play 'their' game, their way..

True. But we're around, in a higher population than many seem to realize.
Girl gamer here- joined for the LOTR aspect of it, but fell in love with the gaming aspect of it. Still a student, though

I second that. I have a no wood for hishn motto but I my backside is still reeling from that warg bite. Female gamer myself. I come from a long list of mmo's. I am having fun in Lotro and been spending allot of time with the aussies. I think the reason I made it into the Sin guild was I talked on vent and Sokar couldn't resist. Least that is what I am told

Lady gamer here as well I don't know about salons but my elf neighborhood could sure use a shopping mall. FYI as a lady gamer I do try to use my power only for good...but naughty things just seem to come my way It's those MA boys I tell ya!! <innocent look>
Ps. I am not allowed to talk in vent...bad things happen when I do
Rofl think he wants a summarised version of that pic thread.

You shouldnt believe everything/or anything Anca says. I had scouted your spider for recruitment long before I knew you {always seen you around in the battle}. Unfortunately you were in BAOS. Then anca kept insisiting I invite some green i didnt know, in direct violation of our 'recruitment policy' {which im starting to think is fictional...}.
When I found out it was you, I invited away.
Good to see plenty of female gamers about. I know in mxo whenever a chick posted their RL photo in the pic thread, they became seriously paranoid and didnt talk to anyone. {few exceptions of course}

girl gamers are not the stereotypes everyone thinks. I went to paxeast and yes many of the guy gamers fit the stereotypes but the girl gamers do not.
Met many nice girls but still find oddly i like to play w/ the boys.
The girls a lot of the time in the game get very competitive boys just stroke their epeen.
This girl loves pvp .
will always love pvp , yet i do find more girls being support roles.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has made that observation. I find that girls get very weird about other girls getting any attention at all from their throng of male admirers (I'm talking about the types of men that fall all over themselves when a girl talks in vent). It's silly, since this is a GAME, not real life, and the men (or boys) whose attention they're vying for probably don't look anything at all like the fantasy they've concocted.
True. But we're around, in a higher population than many seem to realize.
I hope a lot don't realize, I get really tired of little adolescent hormone bombs
I like it guys play girls (for whatever reason) makes it a lot easier to have a decent game when some guy thinks "Could I actually be trying to chat up a ugly 50ish guy?"
I'm a real girl...and this is my first MMO...and loving it still. I have a group of table top D&D friends (talk about a lack of females gamers) and they talked me into trying LOTRO after I finished up my master's degree. LOL...now I play way more than they do!
It is funny though...I find that most of the girl gamers I know play in the Moors...does anyone else find that odd?
(i love chasing after you silly wargs...darn it...much to my demise)

Funny story about that...we actually built her as a puppet for our Kin leader to use as his Captains herald but we needed another Minstrel to raid so we got Gandalf to make her real...

I have mostly gone back to WoW because I can't find that many mature people to play with here.
.
Silliest quote of the year award.
The maturity of WoW is way below that here.I have found the proportion of female players willing to admit that they are playing is a lot higher in this game than any other I have played, thus proving the more mature community here let's them feel safer and allows them the freedom to play the way they want to.
hm i've been playing online games since .. starcraft broodwars!
there's a game thats hard to be a girl in lol, that and diablo ii/lod.
lotro was my husbands thing while i played a different game, he lured me over during some downtime and now I'm stuck, ironically he stopped playing ;p
I think the funniest thing is to have the ingame voice on or log into vent, when people go 'oh you're really a girl?'. I wonder how many other ladies out there have heard that line on more than a few occasions hehe.
I've had an easier time with the Lotro community than some of the previous venues, so I'd have to agree with jj67 Less strange toadie guys that suddenly want to give you all their stone of jordans x_x lol
I enjoy all 5 of the classes I play, currently leveling a lore master
I have always enjoyed gaming with members of the other sex (yes I am male) in this and other games I have played and I find that they tend to be a bit more mature than their male counterparts in age correspondence, with few exceptions. Of course since coming from SWG, I have noticed that the maturity level of the general population in LotRO is a thousandfold better than SWG. The line at the horse races is proof enough at that.
Spoken like one of the people I was referring to..Thanks for making my point.
True, there is immaturity in WoW but I have found more mature player there than I have here.
And I have been playing MMO's since day one (I was on BBS's and playing Trade Wars and BRE before the internet was even made public) and I was on the internet before the web was even around (and only nerds knew about the internet) playing the first MMO's, we called them MUDS

Wow, your e-peen must be absolutely massive *rolls eyes*
Completely ignore the forum handle, it's a rather old joke. I am a gal from sunny old England. A medical student in my final year. I'm 22 and I have no kids.
I vowed I'd never play an MMO because I was told how addictive they could be. Obviously I took that vow incredibly seriously, lol, LotRO seemed to be the exception to break the rule (and I even had someone pestering me to try WoW), as I'm a fan of the books I simply couldn't resist poking my nose in. I mean it's LotR, how could I say 'no'?
Then when I started to get to know some of the community members I was hooked, and I've been floating around for quite a while now. I managed to score a spot in Alpha 2 and have been here ever since - well over a year now - and it has been fun, but I was right: These games are highly addictive.
I want toast.

*jumps and waves* I'm an old-fashioned Pennslyvanian girl, currently 24, and I've been a gamer since I got a nintendo one christmas and I haven't looked back! XD This is definitely my favorite game (despite the nerfs that have been done to my main), and I'm gonna stick around for a long time!
I can't wait till we can visit and walk around Minas Tirith and jump off the tower of Ecthelion (sp?) and then later, jump in the Cracks of Doom! It'll be even more fun than the suicide jumps off of Weathertop!! XD XD
I usually don't make a point of telling ppl my gender. I'm a gamer and that's all that matters.
I am female, married and proud mother of an adorable 7 week old boy.
I usually choose female avatars simply because it's easier to RP as a female when you are one, but I have RP'ed as a male and that was a fun challenge. One of the coolest things I've seen in a game was a RL female RP'ing as a gay male. It explained 'his' very feminine dispostion.

I'm a college student and I tried convincing my dad to let me try LOTRO back when it first came out when I was in high school. he said no and a few months ago confessed he had secretly tried this game and loved it. So now we play together as a father-daughter tag team. It keeps us close in a semi-nerdy way, but I love it. Only downside is I get random invites from weirdos, I wish they'd just leave me alone so I can kill things!! Oh and hunter class is my favorite!!

This was like reading a post I wrote except I didn't write it
Female gamer (40 something..or 39, again)... started way back on BBS
games like Trade Wars, Mutants and Kyrandia. Moved to Muds and then
Ultima Online beta. I loved UO for 6 years when my friends all left to try
out DAOC (which I loved - the RVR was awesome and my house!) then
WoW where I learned I am very competitive and I like to raid In between,
a bunch of short tries at some games I didn't like from the start:
Star Wars, vanguard, Horizons, Tale in the Desert, There, The Sims Online.
Thats when female gamers were really rare... except true geeks.
Yay geeks! I still remember seeing my first webpage and being unable to
find a book about how to write one. The first book taught me how to do
it in Notepad (which I still use).
LOTRO is one of the first MMO's I've found where there is actually a huge
female community. It's also one of the first with so many first time
MMO players -- which is a good thing -- but I think its also dumbed down
a bit and very easy - maybe because of the level of MMO experience of
its player base.
(Dear boys who are lurking: There are some games with way more women
than men - check out The Sims Online or Second Life)
I too found the community in WoW to be much more mature.
Most of my guild was over 30 and very dedicated. I think many of the
WoW stereotypes come from people who played Alliance.
For the Horde!
Oh man the bbs days! I'll never forget that sound of the modem connecting. I used to do alot of table DnD also along with Legends of the Five Rings and Rage.
As for the Moors they were great fun right before the exspansion. A group of 6 hunter and burgs lurking around in stealth, hit and hide. Those were the days. Alas it seems as though LOTRO staff is trying to weed out some of the hunters as there are so many of them.

I find it is quite the reverse for me... it was the immaturity of the general populous in WoW that drove me away and the overall maturity in LoTRO that has drawn me in... Maybe it has to do with the server you are in... I find that the folks here in Elendilmir are amoung the best I have been with in my entire MMO career...
Adult woman gamer here..not 'girl' gamer My youngest child is in college.
Have played the BF2 games, tried most of the spray and pray shooters, tried guild wars and loved it! Then played WOW and now LOTRO.

Absolutely agree. There is a much more mature player base in LOTRO then there was in WoW. I played WoW for 3 years and got sick of the immaturity even from some adults.

Err sorry, but get off your high horse. It's not immature to point out how ridiculous your statement was, or how comepletely backwards your statement is. I understand perspective comes into play here, but generalizing it the way you did was comeplete misinformation to bullhead your biased opinon on. Quite the contraray, it points out how immature the "WoW" crowd is...see what I did there?

No offense but, you went back to WoW because you cant find mature players HERE?
EDIT: On reflection, could the fact that you find more mature players in WoW possibly be because you've spent far more time there and have given yourself time in that game to develop friends with mature attitudes and weed out the pain-in-the-rears?

*waves* Girl gamer right here. I've always loved gaming and Lord of the Rings, thus when the opportunity came to play online I just couldn't pass it up, plus I had a nudge from a few friends who play as well (all males, ironically).
I play a elf minstrel mainly because a friend wanted a healer, but I loved playing her so I just kept her. Edhellreth - 46.

Yupper. My kinship is actually more biased on the estrogen side of things. The women just outnumber the men, barely, but that is a good thing; well balanced and all.
