I would strongly suggest checking at the Horse Fields yourself during the festival. If I remember correctly the horse last festival required 9 festival tokens in addition to the horse token you got for turning in 50 festival tokens. Even if I’m mistaken, it would be worth your time to check it out in person. It could be different this year for whatever reason. I’d hate for you to find out a month after the festival closes that your one or two tokens short of trading in your horse for the new skin.

The Festival should be live on all worlds now. We apologize for the slight hiccup in launching it.
Also, the Welcome back week starts on Oct 15. Which is Tomorrow (Thursday).

They have said many times that the horse race was broke and that it probably won't be fixed. That is why we got the alternative races.

It's because everyone complains about issues that are outside Turbine's control (namely lag) that these were disabled. They're not coming back, at least not in their original form.

Are there alternative races up? (The same keg races as Summer?)
I've been wanting the Fall festival mount.

Ummm no the race became bugged after other things were added during a patch. Some folks were able to complete the race but then folks were getting dismounted as well as other issues so the races were discontinued.
There has always been lag since the horse races started. You just learned to do the races at off hours or towards the end of the festival run, when demand had lightened up.
But that is all mute now. The bugged race was in Turbine's control. They bugged it but instead of fixing it, they came up with an alternative.

I checked all four areas. There aren't any alternative races.
It appears the only way to get tokens is to do the trickster quests and apples/scrolls/pumpkins/geodes as last year.

A bug may have been the original impetus for disabling them, but I'd maintain that they've left them disabled because they'd rather not deal with the lag complaints inherent in the design.

Re: Fall Festival starts tomorrow!
Let us remember a new and dedicated Mount System is being put into place for Mirkwood. It seems logical not to waste dev time fixing a system going out of existence a month later.
And nothing stops SoN from having our own player run races, and those can be rather fun.

Drat. That's not good news. I have about five characters begging me for the fall fest mount. I was counting on winning a few dwarf race bets to get enough tokens. If it still costs about 60 tickets per mount I expect I'm in for an... interesting time.

That's too bad. The Fall Festival has always been the most lacking of the four festivals. Possibly because, just like last year, dev resources are focused on the expansion instead of the festival.
It's just not that exciting to run around and open boxes of rocks to be randomly awarded a prize.
Please, Turbine, turn the maze back on. That was hands down the most entertaining festival event ever.
